After thirty years of working in oil painting, my practice is now focused entirely on drawing. Drawing had always been an important part of my paintings, where much of the imagery was developed by scratching and drawing into the wet paint. Over time, it became the central element of my work.

I work with pigment-based ink pens, building up each image through successive layers of fine lines. The interaction of line, colour and pattern creates texture and depth, giving the drawings a painterly quality while retaining the character of the drawn line.

My landscapes are made up of recognisable elements such as fields, trees, paths and the sun. These forms are simplified, rearranged and combined into compositions that The landscapes are not intended as literal depictions of places, but as compositions shaped by colour, pattern and imagination. Patterns and shifting perspectives play an important role, creating landscapes that are familiar in their subject matter but distinctly personal in their interpretation.

Each drawing develops gradually through the accumulation of lines, colours and textures. The finished work brings these individual elements together into a single, carefully constructed image.
